Confidence Is More Than A Feeling
‘Whether you think you can or can’t — you’re right’.
The famous words of Henry Ford capture the impact confidence can have on our lives.
What are you avoiding, or missing out on, because you don’t feel confident enough to give it a go?
What if confidence wasn’t something you feel from time to time, but a skill you can practice and develop, so you can go for the opportunities that really matter to you?
Confidence is a skill not just a feeling
Yes, confidence is a feeling that comes and goes. We can feel confident in our ability to give presentations, to apply for jobs and promotions, and our ability to lead teams. That feeling can easily slip away when something doesn’t go to plan or we’re out of our comfort zone.
As confidence dips, you may start to think ‘I can’t do that’ or ‘Who am I to speak up?’- whether you’re going for a new opportunity or sharing your ideas in a meeting.
When those ‘what if’ thoughts arise, how do you tend to respond?
Practice that creates confidence
If we start to see confidence as something we can build, it becomes a skill we can practice - one that helps us act and lead in the way we want.
How we prepare, how we speak to ourselves, and what we believe about our abilities all shape our confidence.
These are things we can explore, practice and strengthen with the support of a coach.
How can group coaching help you to live and lead with confidence?
With a coach, you can explore what confidence looks like for you, where you want to grow, and - most importantly - what you can do to build a deeper sense of self-trust.
Working one-to-one with a coach can be transformative. But when it comes to confidence, there is something powerful about doing this work in a group.
As in 1:1 coaching, each person brings their own goals. Together, the group explores, refines and works towards them.
What’s different is that you’re not doing this alone. You’re learning alongside others, hearing different perspectives, and realising you’re not the only one navigating these challenges.
It means there’s a shared sense of accountability, and a space to practice being the person and leader you want to be.
Group coaching is the training ground to practice the skills behind confidence
Group coaching means doing the work in front of our peers. That can feel uncomfortable at times - but it’s also where much of the learning happens.
Everything you say is an act of courageous vulnerability, a moment of growth, and everything you hear is a chance to learn and to realise that you are not alone in your journey to living and leading with confidence.
In short, a group is the perfect place to practise the things that feel most difficult, and to build the confidence to carry them into everyday life.
If you’d like to build your confidence in a supportive, practical way, our Living and Leading with Confidence group coaching programme could be a great next step.
